Trevor Dennis pleaded not guilty to trafficking and possession of a controlled substance in Athabasca Provincial Court on March 14.

Dennis, 41, represented himself in court. Coughing and wearing grey sweatpants, it was noted that he was feeling ill. The date for the trial was set for Aug. 15.

ìThe trial will go ahead with or without a lawyer,î said Judge Clifton Purvis.

The story of Dennisí arrest made headlines around Canada in December.

After receiving a number of phone calls and text messages from an unknown person asking for drugs, Sgt. John Spaans was able to acquire information to obtain a search warrant to bring the suspected drug dealer into custody.

The unusual story managed to grab to attention of BuzzFeed News, where it went viral.
