The Oct. 21 municipal elections marked the end of a spate of elections that began in July with Athabasca County’s summer villages.

The Highway 55 and 34th Street intersection saw nine non-animal collisions between 2007 and 2011, according to data provided by Alberta Transportation to Town of Athabasca chief administrative officer (CAO) Ryan Maier.

Tonight, Larry Speers is returning to a job he knows well: that of county councillor for Division 1 (Rochester area).

Division 4 (Southwest Athabasca area) incumbent Christine Bilsky is undefeated as of the Oct. 21 election. With 193 votes, Bilsky remains on county council, while her competition, Brian Bahry, received 122 votes.

Incumbent Doris Splane pulled ahead in the Division 3 (Boyle area) race against past Aspen View school board trustee Wes Kowalchuk to win a spot on Athabasca County council this evening. "You know what? I have one thing to say.

Incumbent and Reeve David Yurdiga retained his seat as councillor for the Grassland area (Division 7) today. “It feels good, obviously. There’s more work that has to be done in the division, in Division 7,” said Yurdiga of the win.
