A change in Canada Day plans for Barrhead

Provided the conditions aren't too wet, Barrhead's Canada Day celebrations will be capped off by a fireworks display, similar to the one pictured here in 2017.

The possibility of rainy weather has shifted some of the Town of Barrhead’s plans for Canada Day celebrations.

In the event of rain on July 1, the Edmonton Oilers-themed 25-foot slide and pedestal joust will be set up inside of the Barrhead Agrena, along with the town’s bouncy castles, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Food vendors, including the Rich Valley Hockey Club and West of the 5th, will be set up inside the Barrhead Agrena Lobby from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids can also get glitter tattoos inside the lobby.

A “pet adoption event” hosted by the Barrhead Animal Rescue Society (BARS) at the dog park will take place in the Charles Godberson Rotary Room in the event of rain. It is slated to run from noon to 4 p.m.

The super soaker water fight that was supposed to take place at the splash park will now be inside the Barrhead Regional Aquatics Centre.

The loonie swim will still take place at the Aquatics Centre from noon to 4 p.m., and the free movie that is playing at 8:30 p.m. has been moved into the Agrena.

Finally, the fireworks that are slated to occur at 11 p.m. may also be cancelled if the Barrhead Fire Department determines it is too wet.

Though it is not related to the weather, a skateboard, BMX and scooter competition at the skate park has also been cancelled due to a lack of interest.
