On April 14, Barrhead County Ratepayers were treated to a special kind of breakfast: one made, and served by Barrhead County Councillors.

The promise of pancakes, sausages, and fresh fruit had over 100 people flooding to the Barrhead County Public Workshop in the early morning on April 14.

The event is hosted annually as a fundraiser for local programs. Last year, council chose the Ripple Connection as the recipients of the funds. This year however, they chose something a little different.

Dunstable School is currently working on fundraising for an outdoor classroom, where classes can work outside during the warmer months. The structure will also serve the community as a picnic and meeting area.

The breakfast is free, but donations were being accepted on behalf of the school, with three young students waiting at the door welcoming anyone who attended.

Melissa Lotholz, a local who has achieved her dream of becoming a member of the Canadian Bobsled Team, was also in attendance to share her story.

Lotholz is currently seeking support from the community to sponsor her. Between on and off ice training, it’s difficult for Lotholz to find time to work.

The event raised $465.85, all proceeds are going towards the Dunstable School outdoor classroom.
