BARRHEAD — Barrhead and area residents will have an opportunity to learn more about the two local candidates in the upcoming provincial election during an all-candidate's forum this Monday, May 15.
The forum will be held at the Barrhead Senior’s Drop-in Centre, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the forum to begin at 7 p.m.
Moderators will pose a list of prepared questions to United Conservative Party (UCP) candidate Glenn van Dijken and New Democratic Party (NDP) candidate Landen Tischer, but there will also be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.
van Dijken, the incumbent, is hoping to be elected to his third term in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
He was previously elected to represent the Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock riding for the Wildrose Party in 2015 and then became the first UCP representative of the newly-formed Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock riding in 2019. van Dijken again won the UCP nomination in a tight race last December.
Meanwhile, Tischer is a first-time candidate who won the NDP nomination by acclamation in February.
No other candidates have put their name forward as of the May 10 nomination deadline, according to Elections Alberta.
This event is being sponsored by the Barrhead Chamber of Commerce, the Barrhead Public Library and the Barrhead Leader.
