The Barrhead Art Gallery will be featuring something a little different this month, youth work.

A piece hangs in the Art Gallery that was carefully created by McKenna Klatt, 9.

Klatt said she enjoys painting simply because it is fun.

She took the idea for this piece from one she created in school.

“We did it at school, on one piece of paper,” she said, adding that she painted it onto canvas to make it bigger.

Klatt said she heard there was an art show and decided to enter this piece.

With the snowy weather outside, Raenna Rochon, 8, thought this piece would look perfect inside the Art Gallery

Rochon said that she chose this piece because it features snow.

“It really is the only one that is snowy,” she said.

Rochon said she decided to enter the art show so she could show off her work.

“I really like to paint, and showing off my work,” she said.

Who created this piece?

Shaelynn Rochon, 10 created this colourful artwork at school.

“We did some art at school, and that one was my favourite,” she said about why she chose this piece.

The art was created using pastels, a art form that Rochon thoroughly enjoys.

“It’s a lot easier to do,” she said. “And when it blends together it looks really good.”

Joe Williams, 23, creates pieces that are both unique and creative, using characters that capture your eye and bring the story to life.

Williams said he chose this piece because of the colours and the story that goes along with it.

“Because my mom likes Australia shows and she has always wanted to go to Australia, I wanted to do this in her image,” Williams said.

Not too far down the wall Williams has a piece he created using digital imaging, and another piece that is called Monkey Showdown.

Not all art is created using paint on a canvas, and Kaylee Jacobsson, 15, proves just that.

With three drawings in the show, Jacobsson said that it takes somewhere between 10 when it came to choosing pieces for the show, it was more difficult than Jacobsson had first thought.

“I have a lot of them… but I just went through them and picked out the best ones I have,” she said, adding that her mother was a huge help in choosing the pieces.

Jacobsson said her mother noticed an announcement in the newspaper, and told Jacobsson she had to display her work.

Charcoal is an enjoyable art form for Jacobsson.

“It’s just fun, you can smudge it and do almost anything with it,” she said.

Brielle Airey, 9, has two creations in the show.

“I just wanted to try and put my art in the art show to compare… and to see how well I am doing,” she said.

Airey is a young artist who draws characters from her favourite television shows, and decided to take a step out of her comfort zone.

“I painted this because I wanted to try something new,” Airey said while discussing her artwork.

Airey said she paints for fun, and as a way to calm her nerves.

The Barrhead Art Gallery is open from 12 to 4 p.m. on Monday and Friday for anyone interested in viewing the artwork.
