BARRHEAD – The much-anticipated Blue Heron Fair is happening Aug. 9 and 10 with so much packed into one weekend you won’t want to be left out.
The Wild Rose Rodeo events showcase rodeo talent that will wow visitors.
“Last year the event was awarded Rodeo of the Year by the contestants in the Wild Rose Rodeo Association,” said Neil Branden, rodeo organizer team member.
“Everyone should come because the contestants always try to put on their best show for this one. You'll see some high scores and fast runs.”
“We always look forward to a fabulous weekend with fun-filled activities, great food and amazing rodeo talent,” said Rosanne Lee Bain, event organizer team member.
“Come out and show your community support and enjoy all the Blue Heron Fair has to offer.”
The Parade starts at 10 a.m. on Aug. 9 and the theme is ‘On the Move’.
The route will follow last year’s parade route starting with coming up Main Street.
The Saturday Morning Horse show is happening at the AG Barn and starts at 9 a.m.
Riders participate in classes in haltering, jumping, and some trail classes.
Pre-registration for riders is preferred.
Starting at noon on Saturday and Sunday there are a wide variety of activities for everyone.
Kids can have the time of their lives on the Bouncy Castles or getting their faces painted.
Everyone can watch balloon artists build amazing creations to take home as souvenirs.
There will be a mechanical bull for those who want to test their bravery.
Human powered carnival rides might be the most fun so make sure to check that out when you are there.
These rides, for those who dare to ride them, are exhilarating, and provide great entertainment for people who stop by to watch.
Can we talk about the amazing food for a minute?
The concession is having tasty treats that people line up for all day.
There will be mini donuts, lemonade, vintage ice cream, delicious Mexican food, the mouth-watering Snack Shack, and Beer Gardens.
You are going to want to have your seats picked out by 1 p.m. around the main outdoor arena.
The Wildrose Rodeo Association has scheduled the mini chuckwagons on Saturday and Sunday to start the rodeo, and you don’t want to miss the kids’ events like mutton (sheep) riding.
Cole and David Schmidt are perennial finalists in the Wild Rose Rodeo Association according to Branden.
Cole competes in the steer Wrestling event, while David and Cole compete in the Team Roping event.
Wyatt Branden competes in Tie Down Roping and Team Roping and is a favourite at the finals every year.
Randy Schmidt is announcing at the rodeo and is always a crowd pleaser.
Tyson Wayner is the rodeo clown, so look for some entertainment from him.
The rodeo will feature Walking M Rodeo horses and cattle, which won the Triple Crown Stock of the Year for 2024, including Buckwheat, the Bareback Horse of the Year, Fancy Like Midnight, the Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year, and Just a Dream, the Bull of the Year.

Saturday evening the jam-packed cabaret featuring Martine Dawn begins at 9:30 p.m.
Advance tickets are $30 and tickets at the door are $35.
Sunday morning the barrel jackpot race is happening starting at 9 a.m. in the AG barn.
Pre-registration for riders is preferred.
Starting at 1 p.m. is the Country Market with spectacular shopping for yourself or for gifts for family or friends.
The Country Market wraps up at 4 p.m. so you don’t want to miss checking out these treasures.

The Slow-Pitch baseball tournament is scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday where you can watch your favorite teams play for the championship.
There are 16 teams participating with 10 teams that are local to the Barrhead area.
This tournament is semi-competitive with teams of all levels of skill competing for the cup.
Last year’s winning team, The Yankmes, are back and so is the second-place winners, Stealth, so come cheer on our local baseball champions for another tournament win.
