BARRHEAD – Lillian Hnatko was presented the Exemplary Community Partner Award by Pembina Hills School Division Vice-chair Judy Lefebvre on June 3.

“We are happy to honour an individual whose spirit and dedication have become an integral part of the Barrhead Composite High School (BCHS) community,” said the Pembina Hills School Division website in their announcement.

Hnatko is at the Barrhead Composite High School long before the students arrive getting breakfast bins ready so the students can begin their day filled with good food.

She has shared her time and skills in generously providing classes on the popular heritage skills of pierogi and cabbage roll making, passing on the cooking traditions to the new generation.

Her classes are a big hit with students.

Hnatko is a bright light and while in the school volunteering everyone around her feels her caring spirit and her kind heart.

She is a wonderful baker and shares her talent with mouth-watering desserts that she brings in for staff appreciation lunches.

No-one can resist the delicious birthday cakes she whips up for team members special days.

It is not just the baking; it is the thoughtfulness that has such a positive impact on those within the Barrhead Composite High School team.

Hnatko has been a volunteer beacon within the school community demonstrating the importance and appreciation of lifelong engagement to the betterment of school life.

Her infectious delight is inspiring, and it does not go unnoticed by others.

She is someone who makes a real difference to so many within the school and is an outstanding role model.

“Her enthusiasm for staying active and involved in our school sets an example for others,” says the Pembina Hills School Division.

“Her active volunteerism makes a tangible and positive difference in her school community.”
