Barrhead residents donate 71 units of blood

Canadian Blood Services continues to bank on the support of Barrhead residents to help fill the shelves.

Canadian Blood Services continues to bank on the support of Barrhead residents to help fill the shelves.

“It was another successful clinic – collecting 71 donations (units) of life-saving blood,” said Canadian Blood Services community development co-ordinator Mark Salamandick.

The number of donations surpassed the goal of 65 donations by six, and considering it’s August and so many people are busy with summer activities, it was a great clinic, he said.

“This mobile clinic will have a big impact on blood stocks. We want to thank all the donors who took time out of their day to come in and donate at the Barrhead Agrena. The community has a history of supporting these important clinics, and we really appreciate their support.”

There were five donors who attended the clinic that were donating blood for the first time, Salamandick said.

“Since some of our regular donors are getting to the age where they can no longer donate, it’s important to find new donors to take their place. We would like to thank them for taking that step towards helping patients in need.”

The next clinic is scheduled for Nov. 23. If people would like to book an appointment for that clinic, they can call the toll free line at 1-888-2DONATE (1-888-236-6283). Donors may also visit blood.ca for more information.
