BARRHEAD – Do people know about the beautiful tranquil garden space at the Barrhead Health Care Centre? It is an amazing place for patients, family, visitors and staff.
“It was during COVID when they did the renovation,” said Lori Begert, Lab Supervisor and Social Club member.
“A patient, Ella Anderson, donated the money to have it redone.”
There is a plaque displayed outside of the courtyard honouring Anderson’s memory and her gift.
She was a long-time member of the Barrhead Ladies Auxiliary and is described as having ‘an incomparable zest for life’.
Ella’s Garden is named in Anderson’s honour and there is a beautiful metal sign within the garden to acknowledge her to everyone who visits the calm, peaceful spot.
Prior to the renovation part of the courtyard was unusable because the sidewalk was damaged.
Now people can visit either side of the courtyard and enjoy the sunshine and plants that fill the space.
It is a nice little morale boost for everybody within the Care Centre, said Begert.
The spectacular large annual flower arrangements are donated from Northern Flora for the last three years.
There is fantastic fountain in one corner of the garden donated in memory for a lab and X-ray technician Dora Duville.
Donations from the Ladies Auxiliary help cover some of the costs and fundraisers within the Care Centre are held to raise money.
The Social Club gets several compliments on the garden, Begert said.
The members take care of the maintenance of the garden, putting up seasonal festive decorations and doing everything they can to make this an enjoyable space within the Care Centre.
Bergert along with Lesya Hove, Corrinna Walker, and Tracy Calihoo do all the work needed to keep up maintaining the courtyard throughout the year.
They decorate at Christmas, support sports teams with coloured railing lights, maintain the large flowerpots and the plants throughout the landscape of the courtyard.
Trimming is a big job that takes more than two hours to complete, and all the volunteers do what they can to help keep everything neat and tidy.
