Fort Assiniboine town lots poised for residential revamp pending approval

July 17 Public Hearing to discuss rezoning application for two lots in Fort Assiniboine

Two lots at the corner of University Avenue and Park Road in Fort Assiniboine have been identified in an application submitted to be re-zoned as Residential.

At the June 19 Woodlands County Council Meeting, Coun. Alan Dean, Whitecourt Central, inquired if the existing structure would be converted to residential.

Woodlands County Council approved a request for a reading of the land use bylaw, to be organized for July 17 at 9:45 am in the Woodlands County Whitecourt Council Chamber.

The July 17 meeting is a public hearing where persons claiming to be affected by this change may voice their concerns.

These lots are currently zoned as Public/Institutional and were owned by the United Church.

The current zoning does not allow for residential development.

The adjoining parcels that are east, west and south of the lots in question are zoned for residential development.

The ownership of these two lots has changed, and the new owners are interested in re-zoning so they can begin their design plan for their land.

Joshua Raposo, planning supervisor for the county, said that the new owners have not yet made a decision on whether they will renovate the existing structure.

The new owners wanted to pursue re-zoning as a first step.
