Government tables back-to-work bill for Canadian postal workers

Locked-out Canada Post employees may be forced back to work after the Conservative government tabled legislation that would send them back to their duties.

Locked-out Canada Post employees may be forced back to work after the Conservative government tabled legislation that would send them back to their duties.

Canada Post and the Canadian Postal Workers Union would enter into final offer selection binding arbitration, meaning each side tables their final offer and the arbitrator picks one or the other.

A vote is unlikely to take place until Thursday.

Canada Post suspended operations on June 15 across the country following 12 days of rotating strikes being carried out by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

CUPW stated that contrary to the CPC media spin, there was no scheduled meetings between the parties on the weekend, and “it is obvious that CPC management is waiting for the back-to-work legislation that they wanted so badly.”

CUPW on its website stated in order to set the stage for back-to-work legislation, CPC management engaged in a series of media stunts. First they claimed that CUPW demands would cost $1.4 billion, and then refused to explain or justify this figure.
