On April 25, Peppers’ is hosting Celebrity Chef Live Lobster night, with Kubinec, Minister of Culture and Tourism, as the special guest.

Roseann Gezmish, owner of Peppers’, said the Lobster Night was brought back after a successful event last fall.

“We did this in November, and it was such a big hit, and the customers were asking for it again so I thought I would throw a spin on it and make it a worthwhile evening,” Gezmish said, adding this time around she added a celebrity to the mix.

“They’re not actually cooking, but they’re in the kitchen, they’re pouring coffee, and they’re socializing,” Gezmish said.

Pepper’s is hosting the event as a way to promote the restaurant, but also to fundraise for a local charity.

Because the lobsters come from Nova Scotia, Pepper’s must sell at least 40 lobsters for the event to be a go.

“I have a quota, and if I don’t hit that quota, then I will have to either postpone or cancel it,” Gezmish said, adding the cut off for purchasing the lobsters is April 20.

“You have to have your numbers in so they can get them sent up from Nova Scotia,” she said.

There are two sittings, one at 5 p.m., and another at 6:30 p.m.

“Right now we are filling up the 6:30 one,” Gezmish said, adding they are only half way to their quota.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the restaurant or by calling 674-6874.

Kubinec is a regular customer at Pepper’s, Gezmish said when asked why they chose her as the celebrity of the night.

“She’s a regular customer, and she’s the biggest celebrity I know in Barrhead,” Gezmish said. “And she’s so friendly and sweet. It’s going to be a fun night.”

Gezmish said she hasn’t finished the menu for the event yet, but the lobster does include two sides.

“I don’t have the menu done up yet, I want to see if we meet our quota because it doesn’t make sense for me to prepare a menu if I don’t have the people,” Gezmish said. “We usually do coleslaw, potato salad, corn on the cob, baked beans, and Italian wedding soup. That’s what we did last time.”

Gezmish said providing these opportunities is important for the community because it brings everyone together.

“It takes a small town and gives them a chance to socialize and experience something in-house rather than having to travel to the city,” she said.
