Mischief charge nets Barrhead woman 12-month peace bond

Barrhead Provincial Court (VM)

BARRHEAD - A Barrhead-area woman received a 12-month peace bond after pleading guilty to mischief obstruction.

Justice Bruce Garriock handed down the sentence to Kimberly Fay Pittman during an Oct. 8 Barrhead Court of Justice session.

Crown prosecutor Benjamin Wiebe said he had been in contact with the victim and suggested that a 12-month peace bond with a $1,000 promise-to-pay was a sufficient sentence complying with denunciation and deterrence factors.

Conditions of the peace bond include keeping the peace and being of good behaviour, reporting to probation as directed, and completing assessment, treatment, and counselling regarding psychiatric, psychological, and substance abuse issues as directed by the accused’s probation officer and to the satisfaction of said probation officer.

The Crown added that once Pittman signed the peace bond, he would withdraw the other mischief obstruction charge, failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking and trespassing at night.

Duty counsel Gord Collins said his client accepted and agreed to abide by the conditions.
