Neerlandia Co-op makes shredding a community event for a good cause

Neerlandia Co-op shred documents and collects STARS donations

Tons of old paperwork became a community fundraiser in Neerlandia last Saturday (June 15).

“We had a lot of boxes that needed to be shredded,” explained Steve Devries, General Manager of the Neerlandia Co-op at the June 15 Shred It Fundraiser event.

“I thought it was a good idea to extend the community and collect donations for STARS, a good cause.”

Neerlandia Coop contracted Altogether Shredding, based out of Whitecourt, to come out and handle the paperwork processing for the day.

Kim Bennett, shredding professional, was the person on hand to do the paper shredding.

Kim was loading paper into the garbage disposal bins, which then gets placed in a chute that elevates the bins into the truck.

The bin is dumped into the machine within the truck that shreds the documents and the process is complete.

The Co-op had six pallets of old paperwork to shred. By noon 5 seniors had brought in their shredding to contribute to the processing explained Bennett.

A BBQ lunch was offered in front of the Co-op for a donation. A good size crowd was already gathered enjoying the lunch.

All donations went to STARS.
