This piece of equipment is produced by Wexiödisk, and is considered one of the greenest dishwashers on the market. To the left, Marzian demonstrates how the plate scraper clears off plates. Below, racks rest over the sink to provide work space, and to allow for the dish racks to slide over with ease.

Gary Marzian, owner of G2 Commercial Repair Service Ltd. not only goes beyond just providing excellent customer service. He also takes great pride in providing top of the line green equipment through his Edmonton-based business.

Marzian didn’t always sell commercial equipment.

“I have been in business for 14 years. I started out strictly as repairing mechanical equipment, and then I diversified into selling high-end commercial equipment,” Marzian said.

Marzian explained there are more benefits to going green than just the environmental aspect.

“I think it’s important because we need to do it for the environment, we need to look at your kids 20 years down the road, you are helping them to save energy,” Marzian said. “Green is not just only about the energy you are saving, to me it’s more encompassing, that when you buy a real green appliance, you are saying to yourself, I am taking this step to better my community.”

When commercial equipment is more energy efficient, it costs more upfront, but saves money down the road.

“Even though the cost is higher, the energy savings far outweighs the initial costs,” Marzian said. “In the long run, you recoup all of that cost in the energy savings, the labour, the chemicals you use, that is really where the green comes out in that sense.”

Marzian explained the pride he feels when selling green products, and used the equipment in the new Bethel Pentecostal Church kitchen as an example.

“This kitchen here, is probably the best in all of northern Alberta in green, I don’t think anybody is even close to this facility,” he said, “So you can take pride in the product that they have.”

The newly built kitchen needed outfitting, and through a friend at the church, Marzian and G2 Commercial Repair was hired for the job.

“When we had the first meeting, the church’s goal was to buy quality equipment, but more importantly they wanted to go green,” Marzian said.

At first, the church was only looking to use Marzian to purchase and install a dishwasher, but soon decided to keep the quality within the family.

“From there, it expanded, and they decided they wanted to go with me for cooking equipment and coolers also,” he said.

The dishwasher comes from Ali Group, a company based in Italy. The product line, Wexiödisk, is known for making high-end green products, and is favoured by Marzian.

“I really work just with Ali Group Equipment. I took that step because I wanted to have a product that I know the factory will stand behind,” Marzian said. “They stand behind me, and they help me, and that’s what it is, it’s like a partnership. You find a few vendors who really want to help you succeed, and help your customer succeed, and then it’s like a family.”

Wexiödisk is the line that produces the dishwasher purchased for the church, and includes a number of unique features.

Some features include the automatic lift hood, which will lift with the push of a button.

“The nice thing about this unit is, it’s very, very efficient,” Marzian said.

The dishwasher uses cold water, which is heated by recouped energy that is normally wasted.

“When the door opens, it sucks in all of that hot wasted air, and we convert it into energy, and we use it to heat the water,” Marzian said.

Wexiödisk started in 1972, and takes pride in providing excellent products that are also green.

“You can configure these anyway you want,” Marzian said. The company provides products for a variety of different kitchen sizes, and includes additions such as the automatic lift.

Falcon has gone beyond its English shores by introducing their company into Canada through the installation of the induction stove at the church.

The company is based out of the UK, and produces top of the line commercial cooking equipment.

“This not only goes here, but in very high end facilities with world-renowned chefs,” Marzian said, after explaining how the same stove is being used by students attending Le Cordon Blue, a culinary institution in London, England.

“It’s meant to work for 20 years,” Marzian said.

The induction stove is a unique product that uses resistance heating to boil water or heat a pan.

“With induction, you have to use special pots, that’s the other side of induction cooking equipment,” Marzian said. “So when you take the pot off, you can actually put your hand on here and it won’t hurt, because there is no heat here, all we are doing is vibrating the pot.”

Marzian explained how the induction stove works when it comes to boiling water.

“When you excite molecules, it creates heat, so that’s how it works,” he said. The technology has been available for some time, but is slowly becoming more popular.

“It’s very, very efficient,” Marzian added.

The fridge purchased for the church is from Williams, a company new to Marzian.

“This was the first Williams shipment I have received,” he said. The company is new to Canada altogether.

“The only problem we had was a delay in the shipping,” Marzian said, adding they were worth the wait.

“These are very high-end, very clean coolers, and they are really nice,” Marzian explained.

For Marzian, one of the main goals is to inform the customer of the importance of quality.

“That’s really the goal for me, is to try and teach the customer to not keep buying a new product every year and keep changing it, you can buy it once and keep it,” Marzian said. “That’s a learning process for the North American market still.”
