Orioles beat Westlock rivals for first home win

The Barrhead Orioles won their second game of the season and the first at home by defeating their Highway 18 rivals, the Westlock Red Lions 8-5 on May 31.

The Barrhead Orioles won their second game of the season and the first at home by defeating their Highway 18 rivals, the Westlock Red Lions 8-5 on May 31.

After a scoreless first inning, Barrhead exploded offensively, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second inning. They would add to their lead by scoring two more runs in the third and one in the fifth.

Westlock would break the shutout scoring their first run in the sixth inning before mounting a bit of a comeback, loading the bases on two occasions and scoring two runs. Ryan Ricard went the distance on the mound for the Orioles for the win.

The Orioles' first win was an 11-9 May 25 decision against the St. Albert Cardinals. They now hit the road for an extended four-game road trip before returning to Orioles Park to take on the Parkland Twins on June 14.

The first pitch is at 7:15 p.m.
