Barrhead’s Celebration of the Arts was dubbed a success over the weekend, with a total of about 135 people coming out to enjoy a two-day event of fine art and entertainment.

Festivities, which were also celebrating the Barrhead Art Club’s 55th year, kicked off Friday night at 7 p.m. Art lovers were able to get their first glance at the fine art show that would take place the next day, as well as indulge in some live music, wine and d’oeuvres, and an art auction.

The night began with three artists speaking about one of their paintings. Artists Trish Acres, Lorna Hamilton, and Glennis Wilson all spoke candidly about their concept of art, how they created their piece, and why they did.

Auctioneer Charlie Parsons successfully sold six donated paintings during the art auction.

The paintings each sold for no less than $200 each. Proceeds will go towards gallery expenses. A portion will also go towards a Blue Heron donation.

Live music was the final event of the night, where onlookers could sit back and listen to the talents of Kendall and Karen Taylor on guitar, Helanna Penner gracefully playing violin, and Laura Braucht serenading on the piano.

When Saturday rolled around, the community was invited to browse 135 paintings, as well as eight figurines throughout the day. The Annual Fall Fine-Art Show ran from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and welcomed about 60 people.

There was no shortage of beautiful work in the show, with a little something for everyone. There were breathtaking mountains, vibrantly coloured water scenes, mystical forest paths, and crisp autumn trees. Not to mention portraits of canine companions and unique and abstract multimedia pieces.

Not only did the art club display their favourite and newest works, Barrhead Composite and Barrhead Elementary also had a display available for viewing pleasure.

Art browsers were all given a people’s choice ballot to submit their favourite work of art both from the Barrhead Art Club, as well as the Barrhead schools.

The Barrhead Art Club wishes to thank Charlie Parsons, all the musicians, the Fort Assiniboine Art Club for their donation, and everyone who helped and attended to make the evening a very special one.
