Trial set for Whitecourt man, with or without him

Crown prosecutor asks for ex-parte trial after accused does not attend court appearance for the sixth time
Barrhead Provincial Court (VM)

BARRHEAD - Time has run out for a Whitecourt man charged with driving without proper insurance.

On Aug. 13, Justice Carrie-Ann Downey in the Barrhead Court of Justice accepted the Crown's request to schedule a Nov. 10 ex-parte trial for Wendell Rodney Prince.

Provincial traffic Crown prosecutor R. Rees said it was the sixth time the charge had been brought before the court, with Prince absent each time.

Downey said it had gone to warrant three times.

Instead of issuing a fourth warrant, Rees asked for an ex-parte trial and entered a not-guilty plea for the accused.

It is expected the trial will last roughly 10 minutes.

Red means stop

Nick Trynchy also received a $405 fine after he pleaded guilty to failing to stop for a red light at an unspecified traffic light on 49th Street on May 15.

He has until Nov. 26 to pay the fine.

Rees noted that the item was slated to go to trial later that day after Trynchy pleaded not guilty to the offence during his previous court appearance.

However, she said she spoke to the accused before the start of the trial, and he expressed his wish to change his plea to guilty.

Improper transportation of liquor

Barry William Hennessey received $120 for improperly transporting liquor in a vehicle after being convicted in his absence.
