A 33-year-old Barrhead woman and a 30-year-old Gunn man face a number of charges in an armed robbery on July 28 at the Fas Gas in Barrhead.

Shawna Letendre and Craig Dewald have both been arrested in connection to the incident. Letendre has been released on bail, while Dewald has been remanded into custody.

Barrhead RCMP members responded to the call at about 4:18 a.m. The suspects were armed with a knife and made off with a small amount of cash. RCMP responded and observed the suspects in the vicinity of the store, according to RCMP Sgt. Bob Dodds. The pair fled and a perimetre was set up to contain the area while a police dog was requested and more members were called out.

A short while later, the couple was seen trying to get into a taxi. They were arrested without incident. A small quantity of cocaine was located in the area where the suspects were arrested. Both suspects will have their first appearance in court on Aug. 9.

This is the first incident of its kind since Dodds moved to Barrhead, he said. No injuries were sustained, and the robbery was caught on surveillance. RCMP has requested footage from the surveillance camera.

“Fas Gas probably has the best surveillance system in town,” Dodds said. “The suspects went to a house east of the gas station and changed their clothes, but the RCMP members recognized them from the video.”

Dodds commended his officers for a job well done in locating and arresting the suspects without incident.
