Versatile Choir calls out for singers and a pianist

Singers wanted for the Versatile Choir starting in September. They are also looking for a pianist

BARRHEAD – The Versatile Choir is ready to get rolling for September, welcoming previous members back, looking for new singers and is in need of a pianist.

Everyone is welcome to join.

There are current members from Barrhead, the County of Barrhead including Neerlandia and Woodlands County including Fort Assiniboine and Mayerthorpe.

“The choir is every inch a friendship club where people get together,” said Dallas Stevens, one of the organizers.

The choir has been a fixture for the past 40 years and is an important part of community unity.

The Versatile Choir is open to anyone interested in singing with a choir that meets weekly, performs at senior centres monthly and makes appearances at other events throughout the year.

The choir covers a range of nondenominational music, including rock, country and gospel.

“We meet at the senior centre in Barrhead. The first meeting will be Sept. 4, 1:30 pm at the Barrhead Senior Centre,” said Stevens.

The Barrhead Senior Centre is a large space that groups can book for various types of events.

Last year, there were 25 members in the choir, but it can grow to as many as 30 members at certain times.

Stevens explained that this is a casual choir.

The choir offers members an opportunity to sing but also socialize with many friendships built within the group.

The number of people in the choir has been increasing even though Covid affected turnouts through that time.

Versatile Choir will be singing at the Barrhead Remembrance Day ceremony.

In May each year there is a choir windup that is going to be hosted in Barrhead in 2025.

Last year the wind-up was held in Westlock.

Singers and pianists are invited to come to the Sept. 4 meeting at 1:30 pm at the Barrhead Senior Centre.

Contact Dallas Stevens at 780-584-2289 or Margaret Pederson at 780-333- 5676 if you are interested in the Versatile Choir.
