Where the present ends, the future begins

The Barrhead Composite High School Class of 2015 may have closed one chapter of their journey, but they opened another.

On Saturday, June 27, friends, family, and teachers of over 120 students celebrated their students’ trials and tribulation over the past several years.

Steven Kaplan, Principal of BCHS, reflected on some of his fondest memories of the graduating class over the past year.

“To me these memories are rewards, big and small, and speak to who you are,” Kaplan said. “I am very lucky, this being my first year, that I have made many memories of so many of you.”

Kaplan told the Agrena filled with teary-eyed parents that they too are proud to see these students where they are today.

“We have helped in raising you, mentoring you, and loving you, and we are all very proud to be here,” Kaplan said.

In closing, Kaplan commented on the graduation theme, “Where the present ends, the future begins.”

“It speaks to two very important points, why we’re here and what’s next. First you’re here because you have completed something that not all Alberta high school students can do, you did this with faith in yourself, and others around you, a good work ethic, and the ability to finish,” Kaplan said. “I want you to remember, life is far from over. The second part of your grad theme, where the future begins, addresses how you have so much left of your life to live.”

“I want you to remember we are passing the torch to you, your family, schools and community have put forth immense investment in you, your development, and your education, frankly we put the very best of ourselves in you.”
