It is the end of an era.

After 15 years Barrhead’s Vince Wiese and his family, nicknamed Barrhead’s First Family of Fitness, will pass on the reins.

About a week ago. Vincent Wiese finalized the sale of Vince’s Gym to a new Barrhead family, the Vriends.

Wiese said he isn’t sure how or when his family received the unofficial title of Barrhead’s First Family of Fitness, but it might be do to the fact that his family spent a good portion of their lives at the gym.

“I know the girls practically grew up here,” he said, during their last visit as proprietors of the gym. On Monday, July 6, the new owners took over.

“It was just a time for a change. After 15 years of owning the gym and living in Barrhead for 41 years, I am just ready to try something new,” Wiese said.

Originally the gym was located in The Mall, but after about a year-and- a-half Wiese moved to its present location on 52 Ave.

“I built it myself when I was just 26 years-old,” he said.

As for what he will miss most about the gym, Wiese quickly responded, the people.

“Our members and the people of Barrhead have been absolutely wonderful. Not only have they been supportive to us, but to each other,” he said.

When asked about what Wiese and his family are most proud of after running a successful business for 15 years he said it was the opportunity to be a part of people’s lives.

“It is definitely being able to see the difference the gym has made in people’s lives. Being able to help people reach their goals, whether it be to lose weight or just become a little bit healthier, it has been our honour to help people whenever we can,” he said, adding that he is sure the new owners will feel similarly. “I am sure the Vriend family will do a wonderful job and receive the same support from the people of Barrhead that we have. The gym is a much needed service.”

Wiese said he isn’t sure what the future holds for his family.

“We will see what path God has laid out for us,” he said.
