MAYERTHORPE — A Red Deer woman faces a laundry list of charges in relation to a shooting that took place in the Hamlet of Blue Ridge over a week ago.

According to a June 1 news release, the Mayerthorpe RCMP were dispatched May 23 to the Mayerthorpe Health Centre after staff reported an adult man had been dropped off with gunshot wounds.

He was later transported to an Edmonton hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Through an investigation by the Whitecourt RCMP and Mayerthorpe RCMP, as well as the Western Alberta District General Investigation Servies, Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services and Forensic Identification Services, it was determined that the man had been shot in the hand and leg at a residence in Blue Ridge.

The suspect fired a round at the man from a .22 caliber rifle before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

The firearm and suspect vehicle, which were confirmed to be stolen, were later recovered.

Amanda Britney Ann McCarthur, 21, of Red Deer has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, carrying a prohibited firearm in a careless manner, unsafe storage of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm for dangerous purposes, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm with intent, aggravated assault and failing to comply with a release order and undertaking.

She was also facing outstanding warrants from the Red Deer RCMP and Edmonton Police Service.

Following a judicial interim release hearing, McCarthur remains in custody awaiting her first court appearance.
