Kevin Berger – Leader Staff John Litke, a local businessman who operated a men’s clothing store in Barrhead for nearly five decades, passed away on May 24 at the Barrhead Healthcare Centre. He was 92.

The traffic lights on Barrhead’s Main Street at the intersection of 51 Avenue and 50 Street will remain in place for a little bit longer.

Barrhead Regional Fire Services (BRFS) has issued a partial fire ban for the County of Barrhead. Fire chief Gary Hove declared the ban at 12 p.m. on May 23. The ban prohibits the lighting of outdoor fires as well as setting off of fireworks.

Weather permitting, a Bell CH-146 Griffon helicopter from CFB Edmonton will make an appearance at the 10th annual Fly-in Breakfast at the Barrhead Airport this Sunday, June 2.

Barrhead dog owners will finally have the opportunity to allow their dogs to go for a run when it opens an off-leash dog park. At least temporarily.
