Two accused in the murder of an Airdrie father who worked for Rocky View County (RVC) are appearing in court on May 28 for a preliminary hearing to determine whether the case will proceed to trial.

Elijah Blake Strawberry, 28 and Arthur Wayne Penner, 36 are charged with a second-degree murder in connection with shooting of Colin John Hough, 45 on Aug. 6, 2024, near Conrich on a rural road.

Alberta RCMP stated that around noon on Aug. 6, 2024, officers from the Strathmore RCMP received a report of two men who had been shot while working along a roadway on Township Road 250 and Range Road 281 in RVC.

Upon arriving on scene, emergency crews discovered that Hough and a 39-year-old victim had both been shot during an attempted robbery by two, then unknown, individuals. The suspects burnt the stolen vehicle they arrived to the scene in, and stole one of the victim’s RVC pick-up trucks.

FortisAlberta confirmed that one of its employees was the other shooting victim—According to Fortis, their employee was treated for their injury and was released from the hospital the following evening.
