Country music star George Canyon will bring his ‘Classics II’ tour to the Caslan Community Hall next Friday.

Canyon’s long career in the music industry has earned him no shortage of accolades, from recognition at the Juno awards to nods at the Canadian Country Music Awards. His popular singles include hits like “My Name”, “Just Like You” and “I Want You To Live’ off of albums like One Good Friend, Somebody Wrote Love and What I Do. His second Classics album (which he is touring in support of) is a collection of cover songs from some of his musical influences, from Merle Haggard to Hank Williams and Conway Twitty.

His career in music took off thanks to his successful appearance on Nashville Star (an American Idol-like performance show) in 2004. Before that, the husband and father of two worked as a law enforcement officer, beef inspector and owned his own recording studio.

He has also dabbled in acting, with appearances in ‘Trailer Park Boys’ and ‘Heartland’ to his credit.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Gordey’s General Store (780-689-2007) and Aspen Ag Foods (780-689-3757).
