The Community Showcase returns to the Rotary Spirit Centre Sept. 5.

You may be new to town, or maybe you’re interested in getting involved in a community organization, or perhaps you’re just curious about the bevy of services available locally.

All your questions could be answered at the Rotary Spirit Centre’s Fieldhouse Wednesday Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. when the annual Community Showcase takes place.

“It’s a gathering of the different organizations and agencies in the region,” said Travis Darling, the town’s community services program and marketing supervisor.

“I always talk about September actually being the true start of the new year because it’s time to let everyone know what services are in Westlock. We just want to make them more well known.”

Organizers usually expect anywhere from 30-40 booths, but have seen more than 50 some years. There are still a few tables available, and Darling said he doesn’t turn anyone away until there are no tables left. You can contact him at [email protected] if you’re interested in showcasing what your organization has to offer.

Darling said attendees to the event can expect to see a range of available services from government agencies to local sports organizations to everything in between.

“There’s definitely a wide variety of things that are happening in our community,” he said. “I encourage everyone to come down. The Town of Westlock will be giving away three-month family pass (to community facilities) as a doorprize.”

Showcasers are also encouraged to participate in the FASD Awareness Mocktail Challenge, organized by the FASD Network of Northwest Central Alberta. It’s the fourth time businesses and organizations participating in the showcase have been asked to concoct a mocktail recipe to the taste of several judges. The winner will be presented with a plaque and have bragging rights until the next challenge.

“We’re already getting together as a community, we can do one more thing on top of that,” said Darling.
