The second chapter of the Honky Tonk Angels Holiday Spectacular opens this week with the first performance to be held this Friday, Oct. 17.
Dick Arth, whose wife Bunnie directs the annual musical theatre production, said they are planning to have 20 businesses on hand for the official opening.
Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock MLA and minister of culture Maureen Kubinec will also be present to say a few words at the official opening.
While tickets are a bit slow for the Halloween performance, Arth said the first three days of performances have experienced some of the best sales they’ve ever seen.
“The crowds are going to be super,” he said. “We almost have to put extra chairs at the back.”
The Honky Tonk Angels trilogy tells the story of three women who decided to head to Nashville to become country music stars, said director Bunnie Arth. Last year’s play saw the three “Angels” achieve their dreams of success.
This chapter focuses on the three women — plus one more addition to the cast — coming together to put on a redneck-themed Christmas show.
The trilogy ends next year with the Halloween-themed chapter Bubba’s Revenge. Bubba is the unseen trucker husband of one of the characters.
The Honky Tonk Angels Holiday Spectacular is the 19th production performed as part of the Westlock Rotary Dinner Theatre series.
Proceeds from the dinner theatre series have gone towards the Rotary Trail walking path, a CT scanner at the Westlock Healthcare Centre, the new Westlock Rotary Spirit Centre and a residential school in Ethiopia.
Besides the opening night, performances will be held on Oct. 18, 24, 25, 30, 31 and Nov. 1, with additional matinees to be held on Oct. 19 and Oct. 26.
