A group of Athabascan artists is displaying local art and history with their fourth annual Art Show and Sale June 30 and July 1.

The group of over 12 artists from the Athabasca area will display new artwork at the Athabasca Train Station during the Canada Day weekend, according to a July 13 press release. Members of the Athabasca Heritage Society will also be available to highlight the restoration and collections of the historic train station site.

Organizer Joan Sherman said local artists have worked with the heritage society to put up rails to display local artwork at the train station.

"We've worked with the heritage society to put up a gallery," Sherman said in an interview. "It's just a great place to show art."

She added the annual event has regularly attracted over 400 visitors over the Canada Day weekend.

"The Canada Day weekend is great for families to get together," Sherman said. " It’s a great opportunity to look inside the old train station and see the restoration work."

The free event takes place June 30 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and July 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
