There was a buzz in the air at Ed’s Auto Salvage on Nov. 3, and not the kind that comes from bees or dying cars.
Twelve-year-old Curtis Plamondon shaved his head for cancer, after raising $1,360 for The Kids With Cancer Society. “My auntie and grandpa had recently passed away from cancer, so I decided to just raise money because it was a bad experience, so I’m trying to make sure it doesn’t happen to any other families,” he said.
A while back, Plamondon took to Facebook and challenged his friends and family to donate. The objective was that whoever donated the most, got to shave his head personally.
Leading up to the challenge, he also dyed his hair pink. Since then 12 people signed on, including Ed’s Auto Salvage, which donated $250.
Shaving his head for the salvage yard was Lisa Boulerice, who lost her five-year-old daughter to cancer.
“I’m very excited that Curtis chose to do this with kids for cancer,” she said. “The Kids With Cancer Society is close to my heart.”
In fact, back when her daughter was still alive, she did some fundraising of her own with an auction at the Westlock Community Hall.
