The celebration was on in Clyde as the village hosted its annual Summer Solstice festival in honour of the year’s longest day, and the first day of summer.
Local residents along with those from around the region took in the June 20 parade before heading over the agricultural grounds where the fun continued with games and activities for the whole family.
The parade, themed ‘Till the cows come home,’ featured a number of floats, fire trucks, horses, ponies, tractors, classic cars and of course, lots of candy for the kids.
At the ag grounds, stations were set up for the kids to play hockey, fishing, sack races, and a beanbag toss, while some hung on for dear life while trying their hand at mutton busting.
Megan Telfer, a newcomer to the Busby area, said she heard good things about event and decided to check it out. She said array of activities kept the kids busy for the afternoon.
“It was just something to do,” Telfer said.
“The weather was supposed to be nice and the kids love parades and all the activities.”
A tradeshow inside the ag hall and a barbecue hosted by the Clyde Fire Department rounded off the day’s activities.
Sherwood Park’s Toni Forsyth came up from the city for Summer Solstice. She said she’s been bringing her family to the event for four or five years now.
“We watched the parade, had a pancake breakfast, had some burgers and the kids played a couple games,” Forsyth said, adding that family in the Clyde area recommended attending the festival.
