It will be a night under the stars with a new classic on the silver screen.

On June 4, in conjunction with the Vintage Tractor and Machinery Club’s annual show, residents will get to take in a classic drive-in movie.

This year also marks the club’s 25th anniversary show and so, catering to both young and old, movie-goers will get to see a screening of The Peanuts Movie.

“We wanted to hit all age groups,” tractor club member and event organizer J.D. Woynorowski said.

The Peanuts Movie, he added, is a new take on a classic cartoon and the perfect way to bring together old traditions and new entertainment — a big part of this year’s milestone event.

“It’s all about trying to attract younger people to our tractor club and get them interested in the whole thing.”

Woynorowski got the idea for the drive-in movie after attending a similar event with his wife, Aislinn.

“We went to one in St. Albert and it was a lot of fun,” Aislinn said.

The tractor show has a special significance for the couple. The pair met while J.D. was working as a heavy duty mechanic in Edmonton and the tractor show was one of her first introductions to life in Westlock.

Luckily, though, it was not her last.

“The first year that he brought me to the tractor show, he asked me to come meet his parents afterwards. A little notice would have been nice,” she said with a laugh.

“He’s brought me to the tractor show every year since.”

Entry to the event also provides free access to Westlock’s Canadian Tractor Museum and is a chance for local farmers and club members to show off their most prized machinery.

“It’s not just members, we want people from other communities,” Aislinn added.

This year, in addition to the drive-in movie, there will also be a competitive tractor pull to help establish, once and for all, Westlock’s strongest tractor.

“I don’t think we’ve done that in the past. The last year it’s just been a fun competition, but this year because it’s the 25th anniversary, we’ve got the pulling sled all restored and painted,” J.D. said.

“Bring whatever you’ve got.”
