The Athabasca Weavers and Knitters Guild is looking to expand their membership.

No skill level is required.

If you want to learn to weave, crochet or knit, there is always someone in the group willing to teach.

According to the group organizer Liza Russell, it is all about passing on the knowledge and learning something new.

The group has been up and running for almost two years, and has a solid base of more than 20 people from the Athabasca area.

Russell is trying to build more interest in the group.

“We put up a display from many of the girls from the guild if anyone wants to take a look at it at Morning Star Ink, and a number of the different gals put up some crocheting, knitting, some weaving,” she said.

There is also no age limit to who can attend. Some of the youngest members are pre-teens, and there are more than a few older ones as well.

“I wanted to learn a lot more, but if you look at the cost and the time of going to the city, then it gets really expensive,” she said. “We have so many different skilled people.”

The meetings are held the first and third Wednesdays of the month at Morning Star Ink from 7-9 p.m.

“I thought there would be a need and a service for the community,” she said.

“We do have one 45-inch Jack loom for anyone who wants to use it. We are setting it up as a guild project. They can make arrangements to come use it. We’ll help you get started.”
