Community with Spirit, the Town of Westlock’s centenary celebration song has its own music video and it’s out now.
Mostly filmed during the production of the song, the video features performers singing in council chambers and around the town, as well as historical images of what Westlock was like back in the day.
Anniversary committee spokesperson Summer Halliday says the video documents how the song was put together and the people who helped.
“What I liked about was that it captures the creation of the song,” she said. “It shows everyone who was invaluable to making the song so great.”
Performers who appear both on the song and in the video include Town of Westlock mayor Ralph Leriger.
It’s the mix of old and new that Halliday says makes it special.
“I really liked all the aspects of the town and that is shows what the town was and how the people are and it provided a really neat energy to how Westlock is,” Halliday said.
The film clip was produced by a videographer engaged by the company responsible for the production of the song.
“Smith Music contracted Stephen Dafoe, who did it in his spare time,” Halliday said.
The video will be used to promote the centenary celebration at relevant functions, like last month’s mayor business breakfast.
Like the song, it will also be available to local businesses and groups to use for marketing and can be found on the town’s Facebook page and YouTube.
“We’re going to play it for all of our events and potentially down the road we can use it for recurring and get people drawn to coming to Westlock,” said Halliday.
Twelve months of celebration for Westlock’s centenary kicks off New Year’s Eve.
After that is a range of activities coming later in 2016 including a town birthday party and homecoming and winter festival.
As well as the song, Community with Spirit, and accompanying music video, the anniversary committee has also produced a special cookie and calendar to help people get in the mood for the 100th anniversary celebration.
