Gina Payzant , who worked as an archivist in Athabasca, has won the Outstanding Music Video award for “The Hand That Picks the Stones” at the Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta (FAVA) Fest held Aug. 24 in Edmonton.

It’s a little off the beaten path, but it’s hardly a secret.

Starting with a challenge to carry a golf ball on a spoon, 24 teams of two raced around Westlock Sept. 14, searching for their next clue to lead them to their next challenge on their way to the finish line of the first-ever Amazing Race Westlock.

Some 200 people filtered through the Rotary Spirit Centre Fieldhouse Sept. 4 for the annual community showcase, where over 40 local organizations got a chance to make their services known to the community.

Kids from around the region will get a chance to fly in a plane, learn about them from the ground and hopefully ignite some interest in piloting one of their own someday — all for free.
