ATHABASCA – A 23-year-old mother of three is dead following an early morning incident March 22 at the Cornwall Apartments in Athabasca, but official details remain scant more than two days later.

Athabasca RCMP and EMS were called to the scene at the townhouses on the south end of the apartment complex at 3210 Cornwall Dr. just after 4 a.m. Monday morning. The RCMP Major Crimes Unit was called to the scene, which was taped off and remained under RCMP surveillance until late into Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP have not yet confirmed the death, but a family member who does not wish to be named, or have the victim identified at this time, confirmed the woman residing in the townhouse is deceased.

According to the source, the medical examiner has not yet confirmed the cause of death.

The same family member stated they believe foul play was involved, but that has not been confirmed by authorities. They were also unable to confirm whether any children were in the home at the time, but did relay that the children are now with their grandmother. At this point, confirmation of the identity of a potential suspect is also unknown.

A source inside the complex said a couple with three young children has lived in the two-storey townhouse for nearly two months.

The Advocate has repeatedly reached out to local RCMP as well as ‘K’ Division media relations for an update, but is yet to receive any information at this point.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
