Barrhead RCMP arrest male after shot fired

Barrhead - On May 9, 2020 at approximately 2:45 a.m., RCMP were investigating a suspicious vehicle on a rural road west of Barrhead.

The vehicle was located on the road near a residence and officers just finished speaking with two occupants when a gun shot was heard in the area. An adult male who is believed to be an occupant of the vehicle came out of the bush after the shot was fired.

Police determined the shot was not fired by the male and a second adult male who came out on the driveway of the residence was arrested and charged.

A search warrant was conducted the same day at the residence and seven firearms were seized along with ammunition.

The accused adult male was released with conditions and charged with careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, discharge a firearm while being reckless. His name cannot be released pending a swearing of an Information.  

He is set to appear in Barrhead Provincial Court on July 14, 2020. As this matter is now before the courts no further information will be released.
