Barrhead Renegades take on Smoky Lake in U18 action

After getting to a quick start the Barrhead ties Smoky Lake 5-5 at home

BARRHEAD-The Barrhead Renegades skated to a 5-5 tie against Smoky Lake during a Jan. 15 Northern Interlock Hockey League home game.

The tie brings the Renegades record to 6-11-1 for the season, placing them in fifth place in the seven team 4 West Division for Tier 4-5.

Barrhead got off to a quick start, scoring the first three goals of the game from Kalub Wilson (assisted by Jeff Parks), Tayson Hallock (unassisted) and Cesar Isaac Barios Marquez (assisted by Alex Hiemstra and Parker Arnell).

Smoky Lake rebounded late in the period scoring two goals in the last five minutes, including one with less than a minute to go.

Shots for the period favoured Smoky Lake 16-11.

In the second period, Barrhead and Smoky Lake exchanged goals, the first being a power-play goal from Smoky Lake about five and a half minutes into the period.

Barrhead would respond less than five minutes later thanks to a goal by Arnell (assisted by Marquez and Mason Olson).

Barrhead held the shot advantage 23-10.

In the third period, Smoky Lake pressed hard to even the game, outshooting Barrhead by a more than two-to-one margin 23-10 and scoring two unanswered goals for the tie.

Barrhead starting goaltender Matt Moon went the distance, stopping 44 out of the 49 shots he faced.

The Renegades next home game is against Hinton on Jan. 29.
