Morinville RCMP reported in a press release issued just after 3 p.m. that at approximately 12:39 p.m., they responded to a report of an accident on Highway 44 between Township Roads 570 and 571 — traffic is being diverted around the collision scene near Alcomdale and is expected to continue for several hours.
An RCMP collision analyst is attending to assist with the investigation, while next-of-kin notification is pending.
The cause of the collision is under investigation, however, highways in the area are reported to be icy due to recent rain fall.
RCMP are asking motorists to avoid the area of the crash, slow down and drive to the road conditions they encounter.
This is second incident on Highway 44 today as traffic was slowed just north of Pickardville as a semi had jackknifed around 4 a.m. and was blocking the stretch. Westlock RCMP said they received numerous calls in the morning as the truck had not been moved and was causing a hazard.
