Incident adds to series of recent break-ins in the village

The Canada Post building in the Village of Clyde was broken into again March 4. The RCMP investigation continues.

WESTLOCK - For the second time in as many weeks the Canada Post building in the Village of Clyde has been broken into.

Westlock RCMP were made aware of the crime March 4 and started their investigation the same day — they currently have an open file on a break-in that occurred over the Feb. 22-23 weekend.

Canada Post security officials are also involved in the investigation again, as it is a federal building, just as they were with the first incident.

Westlock RCMP Staff Sgt. Al Baird said it was a little puzzling as to why the building would be robbed twice in such a short amount of time as it isn’t a major hub and doesn’t have a lot of valuables inside.

“To target that building twice seems kind of strange,” he said. “Someone has targeted it for some reason, so we’ll look to see if other detachments have similar stuff, or whatever the case is.”

The village has seen a rash of break-ins in the last several weeks, including seven that occurred over the same week the post office was broken into the first time.

Mayor Christa Clausing said at that time that it seemed to be getting worse and worse and council was exploring several options to bring more law enforcement presence to the community.
