Drug bust in Mayerthorpe turns up cocaine, steroids and unprescribed meds

The Mayerthorpe RCMP, with the assistance of officers from other detachments, executed a search warrant at a residence and two involved vehicles in Mayerthorpe on Dec. 8. They turned up a large quantity of drugs and cash. Two individuals were arrested and are now facing charges.

Two individuals are facing a variety of charges following a major drug bust in Mayerthorpe on Dec. 8 that seized approximately $2,500 in cash and numerous controlled drugs and substances. 

According to a news release, the Mayerthorpe RCMP executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant on Dec. 8 at a residence and two involved vehicles in Mayerthorpe. 

They were assisted by the Evansburg RCMP, the RCMP Police Dog Services and members of the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Team. 

On top of the $2,500 in cash, the RCMP seized just over 30 grams of cocaine, multiple vials of steroids, 81 steroid capsules, over 700 capsules and tablets of various prescription medication that were not prescribed for the two individuals, packaged medical needles/syringes, several cellular devices and one prohibited weapon. 

“Those that traffic in illicit drugs destroy lives, homes, and communities,” said Cpl. Greg Anderson of the Mayerthorpe RCMP, in the release. 

“The RCMP remains fully committed in building 'safe communities' and enforcing laws to their fullest extent, in order to achieve this goal.” 

Garen James McNair, 39, and Michele Juliane Harder, 37, of Mayerthorpe have each been charged with possession of cocaine for the purposes of trafficking, possession of testosterone for the purpose of trafficking, possession of oxymetholone for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a prohibited weapon. 

Both individuals have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Mayerthorpe Provincial Court on Jan. 27, 2022.
