Emergency crews were called to the scene of a house fire early Sunday morning (March 6) around 4 a.m. Four occupants in the home managed to escape, with two receiving injuries and were taken to hospital. RCMP and the Westlock fire department are now investigating.

WESTLOCK – Four people are lucky to be alive after an early morning blaze destroyed a Westlock home. Emergency crews were called to the scene of a structure fire on 107 Street, around 4 a.m. Sunday, March 6.

“The fire was reported with four occupants who escaped successfully, although two have been injured within the fire,” said Westlock fire chief Stuart Koflick.

Details on their condition were not available at the time.

When fire crews arrived, they observed visible flames coming from the back of the house and attacked the fire from that location, noted Koflick, before entering the front of the home.

“The fire is out at this time. It took about an hour to get it under control and then it was just dealing with all the hot spots (for) hours afterwards,” he said the afternoon of March 6, adding that the house is severely damaged, more so in the rear and is expected to be a complete writeoff.

“Due to the injuries involved, we are conducting an investigation,” said Koflick. “Right now we’re coordinating our resources and obtaining the proper notifications prior to conducting an investigation.”
