CALLING LAKE – Five fires between July 25 and Aug. 5 in Calling Lake appear be the work of a serial arsonist, say RCMP.

On July 25, two fires occurred just after midnight on Park Dr. and a third house went up in flames later in the morning – around 6:30 a.m. – July 29 on Cardinal St.

“It doesn’t seem like they were occupied at the time, but renovations were current to them,” said RCMP media contact Cpl. Ronald Bumbry.

Athabasca RCMP were again called to investigate two more fires that occurred Aug. 5.

The first, another house on Park Dr. at approximately 1:30 a.m. and the second in the afternoon, at 4:30 p.m. on Gambler Dr. No one was injured in any of the fires.

Bumbry was unable to confirm if the homes burned in fires #4 and #5 were occupied.

“I’m not sure that they were occupied or not with actual people in the homes at that time,” he said.

A fire investigator has deemed the fires were intentionally set and there is an ongoing investigation regarding these arsons.

Athabasca RCMP are asking residents in the Calling Lake area to report any suspicious persons immediately to police.

If anyone has information regarding these fires or the suspect(s) involved they are asked to contact Athabasca RCMP at 780-675-5122. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the "P3 Tips" app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
