WESTLOCK - Highway 18 east of the Village of Clyde was blocked for a number of hours today, March 24, as RCMP and emergency crews were on the scene of a horrific collision between a semi and SUV.

Emergency crews were called to the T-bone accident on Highway 18 right around 9 a.m. where the two vehicles collided just before the curve near Range Road 242. Although the Westlock Regional Notification System had reported there were a pair of crashes on the highway, Westlock RCMP Staff Sgt. Al Baird confirmed just before 11 a.m. that there was only one. At 3:38 p.m., the Westlock Regional Notification System said the accident had been cleared and Highway 18 between Range Roads 242 and 250 was reopened.

Conditions on Highway 18 east heading towards Thorhild County at the time of accident were slippery, with light snow falling and temperatures hovering near freezing — due to the crash RCMP advised motorists to travel with caution as delays on the stretch were expected.

RCMP says more details on the crash will be released tomorrow, March 25.
