John Wort Hannam postpones Jan. 28 Westlock show due to COVID-19 concerns

Prisoner of Tehran will be the next show on Feb. 12
WES - 2022 CATS Cancellation
Husband-wife duo Over-The-Moon was the last instalment of the Westlock Cultural Arts Theatre Society’s performance series Jan. 7. Folks-roots artist John Wort Hannam was next in line for Jan. 28 but has decided to postpone his performance until later in the year citing concerns around the rising number of Omicron COVID-19 cases. Prisoner of Tehran is next on the list for Feb. 12, a dance dramatization about the life of Marina Nemat, a woman who grew up in Iran and resisted the Iranian government and was imprisoned.

WESTLOCK – With COVID-19 cases climbing across Alberta, the fourth installment of the Westlock Cultural Arts Theatre Society’s (CATS) performance series slated for Jan. 28 has been postponed.

Citing concerns around the rising cases of the Omicron variant, former teacher and folk roots artist John Wort Hannam has decided to delay his Westlock performance until later in the year, optimistic that cases will begin to decline.

While disappointing, Marilee Jespersen with CATS said they have been doing better than initially expected after starting the year off unsure of what the restrictions would impact.

“Hang onto your tickets because it’s not cancelled, it’s just postponed,” she said.

To date, the performance series has welcomed a trio of performances with a range of different styles. It kicked off with country artist Drew Gregory and was followed by a show from the east coast with the Derina Harvey Band rocking the stage with Celtic tunes. Finally, the most-recent performance Jan. 7 came from husband-and-wife duo Over-The-Moon who brought “natural acoustic” jams to Westlock.

Next up for CATS is the Prisoner of Tehran by MOTUS O Dance Theatre, a dance dramatization of a story by Marina Nemat that recounts her experiences growing up in Iran and spending time in prison for criticizing the Iranian government. The show is slated for Feb. 12.

The show is not recommended for children due to the mature nature of the content, but tickets can be found at http://www.westlockculturalartstheatre.com/.
