Major Crimes Unit called in for suspicious death

ATHABASCA - The RCMP's Major Crimes Unit has been called in to investigate a suspicious death at the Jean Baptiste Gambler First Nations Reserve in the early morning hours of Sept. 19.

Athabasca RCMP were called to a residence on the reserve, about eight kilometres north of the Hamlet of Calling Lake in the M.D. of Opportunity, at approximately 5:18 a.m., after a call for assistance that reported a man had been injured.

EMS and RCMP responded to the call, but arrived to find the 29-year-old man deceased on the scene, said an RCMP press release, received Sept. 20.

The release went on to say the RCMP Forensic Identification Section had also attended the scene to conduct an investigation, and that an autopsy is scheduled for Sept. 24 at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton.
