BOYLE — One man is in custody after allegedly trying to use someone else's identification to secure a rental from a Boyle business.

Boyle RCMP responded to a complaint from the business May 20 regarding the alleged fraud at approximately 6 p.m.. They made the arrest and laid six charges, including one charge of identity theft, according to an RCMP media release received May 25.

“It was by fluke,” said RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Deanna Fontaine in a follow-up interview. “The I.D. of the person they were using, the employee was familiar with that person and knew who they were saying they were, was not who was in front of them.”

Boyle RCMP arrested 38-year-old Jeremy Donald Blackwell of Edmonton and charged him with identity theft, obstruction, possession of break-in tools and three charges of possession of property obtained by crime.

“It was a search that resulted in locating other items which were stolen, other than the stolen identity documents,” said Fontaine.

Blackwell was also wanted on multiple warrants for unrelated offences at the time of his arrest, and following a judicial hearing he was remanded into custody, and will appear in Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court May 27.
