ATHABASCA - Athabasca RCMP are asking for the public's assistance in identifying suspects involved in the theft of copper cable in October and advising scrap metal buyers in the region to be on the lookout.

On Oct. 28, local RCMP were called to investigate thefts at a couple different telecommunications towers owned by TELUS in the Athabasca area.

"The unknown  suspects gained access to the tower compounds and stole several meters of copper cables. This occurrence is the third theft of copper wire conducted in the same way." said Athabasca RCMP Const. Jay Tessier Dec. 24.

The 25 metres of cable is green and 2/0 in size. Scrap metal stores in the area should be aware of this theft and remain skeptical when dealing in copper wire.

The investigation is ongoing and RCMP are requesting any information related to the incidents or may help identify the thieves. Please contact Athabasca RCMP at 780-675-5122 or your local police. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the "P3 Tips" app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
