THORHILD — A Thorhild woman is facing a list of charges, including attempted murder, after she attacked a Redwater RCMP officer with a knife.

According to a release, the Redwater RCMP responded to a call for service at a residence in Thorhild at approximately 4:01 p.m. on Feb. 7.

During the call, an officer was attacked by an inhabitant of the residence and received serious, non-life-threatening injuries which required him to be airlifted to hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Various provincial media sources have reported that STARS Air Ambulance was called to Thorhild at approximately 5:45 p.m. and they transported a single male to the University of Alberta hospital.

The release further states that officers from the RCMP's Eastern Alberta District and Northern General Investigative Sections have taken over the investigation.

Cindy Chelsberg, 48, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault of a peace officer, aggravated assault, obstruction and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Chelsberg was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody. Her last court appearance was set for Feb. 9 at Fort Saskatchewan Provincial Court, though it is uncertain what happened during that appearance.
